Creating a Quick and Easy Valentine’s Tea Party Gathering

Galentine's Brunch

A Valentine’s Day gathering doesn’t have to be reserved for couples or evening celebrations. Some of the most meaningful moments happen in the afternoon, gathered around a table with close friends, light bites, and conversation that lingers. This tea party was designed as a Galentine-style brunch to celebrate friendship, connection, and the joy of being together.

I wanted this gathering to feel sweet, comfortable, and inviting. The food needed to be light, the cocktails refreshing, and the atmosphere relaxed. Above all, I wanted it to feel effortless, the kind of gathering where friends feel at ease the moment they arrive.

Designing with Color and Mood

Every gathering I design begins with a vision and a feeling. For this tea party, that feeling was soft and festive, rooted in Valentine’s colors without becoming heavy. I worked with shades of pink, red, white, and touches of gold, a palette that feels celebratory while remaining gentle and approachable.

One of my favorite elements of the table was the raspberry sorbet and Prosecco cocktail. The color alone set the tone, pretty, playful, and unmistakably Valentine-inspired. It was light enough for the afternoon and beautiful enough to spark conversation.

A Light and Lovely Cocktail

The raspberry sorbet and Prosecco cocktail became the signature drink for the gathering. Cool, refreshing, and easy to prepare, it’s the kind of cocktail that feels special without being complicated.

A small scoop of raspberry sorbet nestled into a champagne glass, topped with Prosecco, then finished with mint and raspberries. That’s all it takes. The result is airy, festive, and perfectly suited for daytime entertaining.

For guests who prefer not to drink alcohol, sparkling water or ginger ale works just as well, making this an inclusive option for everyone at the table.

A multi-tiered stand really brings the presentation to another level. It is exciting to look at and the colors are beautiful.

Florals That Feel Romantic and Relaxed

Flowers bring warmth and life to any table, and for this gathering, I chose large pink David Austin roses. Their soft, full blooms feel romantic and slightly nostalgic, reminiscent of an English garden.

Rather than creating elaborate arrangements, I kept the florals simple. A small arrangement anchored the table, while individual blooms were used throughout, resting on plates and tucked into serving pieces. Blue-centered white anemones added contrast and a fresh note, keeping the table from feeling overly sweet.

A Tea Table Designed to Delight

Tiered stands instantly elevate a tea party. They add height, structure, and visual interest while making it easy for guests to serve themselves. I used a mix of two-tiered and single-tiered stands, layering pink and white plates with gold rims to echo the table’s color story.

On the lower tiers, I served heart-shaped chicken tea sandwiches alongside cucumber and tuna sandwiches, cut simply with cookie cutters. Store-bought crumpets and fresh fruit rounded out the savory offerings. On the upper tiers, desserts took center stage.

Red and pink macarons, chocolate cupcakes topped with raspberries, and heart-shaped cookies added a playful sweetness to the table. Raspberries appeared again and again, tying the cocktail, desserts, and styling together. Repeating an element like this creates cohesion and helps the design feel intentional.

Tea, Tradition, and Thoughtful Details

No tea party is complete without tea. For this gathering, I brought out the teacups I purchased years ago while traveling in Germany. They’re a bit ornate for everyday use, which makes them feel special when they do come out.

I also used my mother’s antique teapot, a piece that has been in my family for generations. Sharing these heirloom pieces with friends adds meaning to the gathering and reminds me that entertaining is as much about memory as it is about presentation.

Harney and Sons English Breakfast tea was served, simple and classic.

Creating Atmosphere Beyond the Table

Lighting and music are just as important as what’s served. Even during the day, a few candles add warmth, and soft background music helps set the mood. These elements engage the senses and make the gathering feel complete.

On a final single-tiered platter, I added heart-shaped brownies topped with conversation hearts. A small, playful touch that brought smiles and reminded everyone that not everything needs to be made from scratch. Sometimes the simplest shortcuts allow you to focus on what really matters: being present with your guests.

A beautiful presentation always makes a difference, but the heart of any gathering is the people around the table. When you design from a place of joy and generosity, the result will always feel right.
