Simple Valentine's Day Decor
Valentine’s Day is very special in my home. We celebrate it in a big way and often times it goes on for days. My husband’s birthday is on February 14th!
Ever since my daughter was a baby, we have celebrated Valentine’s Day by exchanging gifts to one another, eating a lovely meal, and then enjoying a homemade cake my daughter and I made together.
Most years, we host a few small parties to celebrate with family and friends. Sometimes we gather to just to have cake and coffee or othertimes to share a brunch the weekend before. It’s so nice to sit down at the dining room table during the winter months to share stories and laugh together.
This year will be a bit different since we are social distancing but that doesn’t mean that it will be less festive. We will host zoom calls and celebrate with a special dinner and of course, EAT CAKE!
“A party without cake is just a meeting.”
Here are just a few things that I used to decorate for a small gathering.
I try to keep it less formal when I have family and close friends over. I often go to my local bakery and order cookies and other goodies that I can serve. On this day, I went to Taste by Spellbound in Avon, CT to order their special Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies. Trust me, they taste as good as they look…well…maybe better. They truly are amazing.
I love blue and white decor, especially dishes. I bring out my antique serving platters and use them when I can. I paired this one with my Spode dessert plates that I purchased just a few years ago. I always mix old with new decor items. I feel like it brings warmth to my table that I can’t replicate otherwise. It is important to me that people feel welcomed and my design is warm and inviting.
The French style vase that I used is actually a pitcher that I serve beverages in. It makes for a lovely container for flowers.
Small additions like brightly colored cocktail napkins and macarons makes the presentation interesting with different colors and textures.

Ambiance is essential, especially on a table. Remember to bring out the votives for a warm glow.
This tablecloth is a French antique from Provence. I purchased it a few years ago when visiting. I just adore it. It is a beautiful linen with enbroidery on one of the ends.
It’s the simple things in life that often bring the most joy.
